Trump Administration Unveils Plan To Reduce Drug Prices

The Trump administration unveiled its plan to help combat rising drug prices. 

In a speech in the Rose Garden, President Donald Trump outlined a laundry list of ways the administration aims to do that.

Some of the big-picture action plans include changing how American-made drugs are sold to other countries and improving the price negotiation process within the U.S.

But there are also some specific changes the administration wants to make right away. 

"Our plan bans the Pharmacist Gag Rule, which punishes pharmacists for telling patients how to save money," Trump said.

"Think about all the time everybody spends watching drug company ads, and how much information companies are required to put in them. If we want to have a real market for drugs, why not have them disclose their prices in the ads, too? Consumers would have much more balanced information, and companies would have a very different set of incentives for setting their prices," Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said.
