President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will reportedly kick off their highly anticipated summit Tuesday with a one-on-one meeting with just their translators.

An unnamed White House official told ABC News the two leaders will later hold an expanded meeting with their advisers.

Negotiators from both sides reportedly met Monday to nail down further details for the summit, which is taking place at the Capella Hotel on Sentosa island in Singapore.

North Korean state media said Trump and Kim are expected to discuss denuclearization as well as a "permanent and durable peacekeeping mechanism on the Korean Peninsula."

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters Monday, "North Korea has previously confirmed to us its willingness to denuclearize, and we are eager to see if those words prove sincere."

Trump and Kim are scheduled to meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. local time.
