A temporary tent detention facility for migrant children who came into the U.S. illegally is set to be expanded.

Multiple outlets report the facility in Tornillo, Texas, will remain open through the end of the year and expand to hold some 3,800 beds.

It's original expiration date of July 13 has reportedly been delayed two other times. The facility currently has enough room to sleep 1,200 children.

A spokesman for the Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families told outlets the facility is being expanded and kept open based on the number of migrant children who illegally crossed the border alone.

He pointed out that family separations at the border ended on June 20 and are "not driving this need."

CBS reports hundreds of children separated from their parents have yet to be reunited, many because their parents were deported. It's unclear if any of those children are housed at the Tornillo facility.
