Saudi Arabia rejected all "threats and attempts to undermine it" Sunday and said it will retaliate for any actions taken against it with "greater action."

The comments seem to be a direct response to threats made by U.S. President Donald Trump. The president told "60 Minutes" the country would face "severe punishment" if it was behind the disappearance and possible death of Saudi journalist and Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi.

Khashoggi went missing after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2. He was known in the U.S. as a prominent critic of his country.

Saudi Arabia denies involvement in Khashoggi's disappearance and says he left the consulate the same day he went in.
