Nikki Haley Resigns From Boeing's Board Of Directors

Nikki Haley is no longer a member of Boeing's board of directors.

The former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. resigned from her position over Boeing's request for government aid in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Haley wrote in her resignation letter, "I cannot support a move to lean on the federal government for a stimulus or bailout that prioritizes our company over others and relies on taxpayers to guarantee our financial position."

Earlier this week, Boeing called for the Trump administration to provide at least $60 billion in financial support to U.S. aerospace manufacturers like itself. 

And President Trump seemed on board with the idea. 

"We have to help Boeing. We have to help the airline industry, and it wasn't their fault," the president said.

But the aerospace industry wasn't mentioned in a coronavirus relief plan introduced in the Senate Thursday. That plan, put together by Republicans, would provide $50 billion in loans to passenger airlines and $8 billion for cargo air carriers. 

Haley joined Boeing's board in April 2019 after stepping down from the Trump administration.
