The University of Miami football team will be raising awareness about the world's plastic problem.

The team will wear new "environmentally-conscious" uniforms for their season opening game on Sept. 2. The special attire comes courtesy of Adidas and Parley For The Oceans, an organization focused on addressing major threats to the ocean.

The uniform is made of over 70 percent regenerated ECONYL yarn, which is made from fishing nets and other nylon waste found in the ocean. The team will also wear cleats made partially from recycled materials.

Plastic in the ocean is a growing problem. According to the Earth Day Network, about 8 million metric tons of plastic make it into the world's oceans each year.

The Miami football team hopes to raise awareness about the problem through their uniforms. The gear will also be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to the university's marine and atmospheric sciences school.
