FDA Announces Plan To Crack Down On Flavored E-Cigarette Products

The FDA finalized its plan to curb youth vaping by targeting flavored e-cigarettes. 

On Thursday, the agency issued what's called an enforcement priority guideline. The document outlines what types of electronic nicotine delivery systems the FDA is going to focus on removing from the market. 

The announcement came two days after President Donald Trump alluded to a temporary ban of some vaping products.

The new guidance targets all flavored, cartridge-based products, with the exception of tobacco and menthol flavors. Companies will need to stop manufacturing them, and stores and retailers effectively have 30 days to eliminate those products or risk "FDA enforcement actions."

The agency said it will also target manufacturers who haven't applied for FDA approval and any product that is aimed at minors. This policy change is not a ban on flavored e-cigarettes. Rather, it's more of a crackdown on products being sold without FDA approval.
