President Donald Trump is continuing his themed policy weeks. Last week, infrastructure. This week, workforce development.

Right now, job training programs account for billions in federal government spending. But the White House has regarded many of those programs as "ineffective."

In fact, the administration's 2018 budget proposal calls for a 21 percent decrease in funds to the Department of Labor, much of which would go to job training grants.

Instead, the administration has dedicated itself to helping states scale up apprenticeship programs and vocational training. This week will likely highlight that.

Helping lead the charge is President Trump's daughter, Ivanka. She's expected to join the president for several discussions with business leaders throughout the week.

This isn't the first time the first daughter has led White House conversations about the workforce.

She was involved in a roundtable discussion between the U.S. and Canada on female empowerment in business.

She also helped lead talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel focused on vocational training and workforce development.
